Tokiwa, Ran
Ran Tokiwa is the winner of the 77th Shogakukan Newcomer Comic Award Grand Prize, which she received at the age of 14. She is the second youngest manga artist to ever debut in Shogakukan's Ciao magazine. Tokiwa began drawing manga in the third year of elementary school, having admired Fujiko F. Fujio's Doraemon series. In her sixth year of elementary school, Tokiwa made a resolution that she would debut as a manga artist by the time she graduated from middle school. Her pen name is derived from Tokiwa-sou, a Tokyo apartment building which housed renowned manga artists such as Osamu Tezuka in the 1950s and 1960s.
