Ch. 1-3) The Acquittal of Rain [ 雨糸の免罪符 ] On a rainy night, Kengo Tsuchiya who is a newspaper reporter and photographer, and is talented at digging up scoops, finds the boy, Yukihiko Fukazawa, being attacked by a street gang. Kengo asks Yukihiko to become a live-in assistant for him because Yukihiko has great interest in photography and coincidentally, Yukihiko is being evicted from his apartment. Yukihiko is a son of an officer of the Ministry of Construction who committed suicide because of a corruption scandal which Kengo was investigating. After his father's suicide, Yukihiko ran away from home, and Kengo, feeling responsible for the whole sequence of events, had spent years searching for Yukihiko, wanting to atone. When he was first found, Yukihiko does not believe in anyone, but as time passes, he gradually begins to trust Kengo.
